We strive to keep our products above the industry standard so that your systems remain current and flexible. For that reason, we make continuous improvements to BriteCore's code base. We've been experimenting with a continuous release process, and we'll be shifting to this to better reflect our daily improvements. Rather than waiting for the all-clear of many items to go out in one weekly release, you'll receive continuous updates for code changes going out in the daily release. Items that require full release notes for this month can be found in this section of the BriteWiki.

BriteIdeas Reports

We've added two new reports to BriteIdeas. These reports have been labeled Pledged Funding and Votes by Change Request and can be found by clicking on the Reports tab in BriteIdeas. You can now view the following reports under the Reports tab in BriteIdeas: Votes by Company, My Pledged Funding, Pledges by Change Request, and Votes by Change Request. These reports make it easy for you to see what others are voting on so you can work together to align interests or view your total pledged amount for funded projects. Read about each report below.

(NEW!) Pledges by Change Request

The Pledges by Change Request report allows users to view a breakdown of pledged funding by Company per funded item in BriteIdeas. For each request listed in this report, you'll see the title of the change request, a list of sponsoring companies, and each company's pledged funding amount. The report also shows the total amount pledged among all sponsoring companies, as well as, the total amount needed to initiate development of the project.

(NEW!) Votes by Change Request

The Votes by Change Request report displays a breakdown of votes by Change Request per voting company. Items in this report are ordered according to their Score in BriteIdeas with the highest scored change requests listed first.

When you view the change requests listed in this report, you'll see the change request name, companies who support or oppose the request, and the total number of votes put towards the support or opposition of the change. Supporting votes are shown as a positive number and opposing votes are negative. See the example image below.

Votes by Company

This report shows total votes by company for each company represented in BriteIdeas. This report is helpful when you want to view your company's allocated votes in BriteIdeas. In the screen shot below, you'll see an example report for Votes by Company. In this example there are two companies: Intuitive Web Solutions and Hayden Mutual. Under each company there's a list of change requests the company has voted on along with the total number of votes that company has put towards the request. Positive numbers on the report represent up-votes by the company and negative numbers represent down-votes.

My Pledged Funding

This report shows the list of projects your company has agreed to sponsor. Next to each sponsored item in the report, you'll see the amount pledged for each project so that you can calculate the total pledged towards all associated projects. In the example below, the company represented has agreed to fund two projects, pledging a total of $7,000 of funded development.

Duplicate Account History Adjustments (Fix)

We made a change that should prevent duplicate account history entries when you make a back dated endorsement change. You should now only see one adjustment entry in the account history records.

Added Primary Carrier's Name to Screen Headers in BriteCore

A release is scheduled for this evening that adds your company name to the upper left corner of each individual screen in BriteCore. This name appears as it is typed in the Contacts module for the Primary Carrier role. Your company name will now display the same throughout BriteCore and BriteQuote in the following places: dashboards, individual screen headers, and online payments screen.


If you would like to change how your company name displays in BriteCore or BriteQuote, you'll need to edit the Primary Carrier's name in Contacts. To do so, go to Contacts, filter by Primary Carrier, and then select and edit the Primary Carrier's name using the blue edit links on the Edit Contact screen.

Property Screen - Uploaded Photos will be Automatically Labeled with Photo Name

When you upload a photo to the Property screen in BriteCore or the Risks screen in BriteQuote, its display name will be defaulted to the uploaded file's name. For example, if you upload a photo with the file name of JohnsFrontPorch.jpg, BriteCore will default that photo's display name to also be JohnsFrontPorch.jpg. To change an uploaded photo's default label, hold down the SHIFT key while clicking on the photo's display name in BriteCore.

It's imperative to save your photos using different file names for a given policy. We highly recommend adopting a naming convention that avoids naming photos exactly the same on a given policy. If two photos with the same name are uploaded to BriteCore, the system will read these as duplicates and delete one of the photos. For example, if you upload photos of a home, sequential numbering is enough to differentiate the pictures: JohnsHome1.jpg, JohnsHome2.jpg, and JohnsHome3.jpg.

Update on Data Warehouse Project

The data warehouse has been up and running steadily since about March of 2012. You get access to it through Reports > Custom Queries. However, there is still a lot of work going on to improve it and make it more user-friendly, but it currently contains:

  • A monthly copy of all BriteCore Data (including premium, claims, payments, everything)
  • Premium Data in the more accessible "Star Schema" as discussed at the user conference
  • Extracted Reports from BriteCore in query-ready table format.

Currently we have two engineers that are working on data warehouse improvements and any funded custom report requests that come in. Our current work-list looks like this:

1. Make Monthly extraction completely fault-tolerant by April 1, 2013
2. Move Data Warehouse from monthly full extractions to daily incremental extractions by May 1, 2013
3. Create fully tested and automated Aggregate Tables by June 1, 2013
4. Deploy Pentaho Business Intelligence Tool by July 1, 2013


When thinking about dates, remember that we are working with 29 servers extracting tens of billions of rows of data, so running into small snags that we could not have foreseen can often set us back an entire month. All that to say... these dates are my best guess, as of today...Read More

OOPS! is Getting an Upgrade

IWS is releasing new code tonight for BriteCore's built-in Issue Tracker known as OOPS. This release will improve the functionality of the Tracker by making the reporting of issues, questions, comments, or concerns more convenient for you. After Monday, you'll no longer need to go from BriteCore to your email to ask us questions or to request documentation or support. Instead, you can do this from within BriteCore by opening the sidebar Issue Tracker (OOPS) and inputting your information the same way you currently report hard errors. In order to make this possible, we've made the following improvements to the Issue Tracker:

  • Created better prioritization selections that include the nature of the request
  • Created additional categories for identifying the type of request
  • Added the ability to upload files (images, pdf's)
  • Added the ability to input multiple email addresses

New Setting Adds Insured's Address to All Declarations

We’ve added a new check box to Settings > Deliverables > Agent/Agency Display on Deliverables that adds the primary insured’s mailing address to the Named Insured(s) area of all copies of all Decs. This includes the agent/agency, named insured, mortgagee, and additional interest copies.

To Enable the Setting
Click the check box next to Add Primary Insured’s mailing address to all Dec copies. BriteCore then automatically adds the primary insured’s address to all copies of your decs. This address appears underneath the list of all named insured(s), as shown in the example dec on the right.

To Disable the Setting
Remove the check box next to the setting labeled Add Primary Insured’s mailing address to all Dec copies. Once this is done, the primary insured’s address is removed from all decs. The list of named insured(s) remains in the Named Insured(s) area.

New Check Box in Lines Combines Premiums of Line Items

We’ve added a new check box to the Lines > Edit Line Item > Setup screen that allows mutuals to Add a Line Item’s premium to another Line Item’s premium on decs. Selecting this option makes the item part of the selected parent item on declarations without changing the way the item behaves in Builder. This setting can currently be applied to line items with the type “Adjustment” selected.

This option is useful for mutuals who want to make rating categories their own line items in BriteCore without drawing attention to them on paper. For example, let’s say that for reporting pur- poses you’ve set up your adjustment for Territory Rating as it’s own Line Item in BriteCore, but you really want the line item’s premium to be included in Coverage A’s total premium rather than being displayed as its own line item on the dec...read more
